# Screenshot for Web > A website screenshot API and free screenshot tools. Screenshot for Web opens any public URL in Chrome on its servers and returns a clean PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, with ads, cookie banners, pop-ups and chat widgets removed, at desktop, tablet or phone size. It can also capture how a page looked in past years or months, from copies kept by the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Key facts: - API base URL: https://screenshotforweb.com/api/v1 - Authentication: a secret API key in the X-API-Key header (or Authorization: Bearer, or ?access_key=). Signed GET URLs let pages embed screenshots without exposing the key. - Main endpoint: POST /screenshot with a JSON body, for example {"url": "https://example.com", "fullPage": true, "format": "png"}. It returns a signed download URL, base64 or the image itself. - Captures: the first screen or the full page, one element by CSS selector, device presets (phones, tablets, desktops) or a custom viewport, dark mode, geolocation, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks and typing before the capture. - Website time-travel: one screenshot per year (up to 20) or per month (up to 36) from Wayback Machine copies, on the Pro plan and above. - Also: batch jobs of up to 100 URLs, change monitoring with alerts, asynchronous captures with webhooks, and AI analysis of a capture (text extraction, structured data) on Pro and above. - Plans: Free $0 a month for 20 screenshots; Starter $9 a month for 2000 screenshots; Pro $19 a month for 10,000 screenshots; Scale $79 a month for 100,000 screenshots. Billed yearly, a month costs: Starter $6, Pro $12, Scale $45. PDF, dark mode, batches and monitoring start at Starter; time-travel, high resolution, hiding elements, interactions and AI analysis at Pro; custom CSS and JavaScript at Scale. - Free tools on the website capture a page without an account, up to 20 captures a day. - It does not record video, and it captures pages as a logged-out visitor sees them. ## Docs: Getting started - [Introduction](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs) - [Authentication](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/authentication) - [Signed requests](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/signed-requests) - [Errors & limits](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/errors) ## Docs: Guides - [Full-page screenshots](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/full-page) - [Capture an element](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/capture-element) - [Devices & mobile](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/devices) - [Dark mode](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/dark-mode) - [Geolocation & locale](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/geolocation) - [Block ads & banners](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/blocking) - [Customize a page](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/customize) - [Capture PDFs](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/pdf) - [Bulk screenshots](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/bulk) - [Website time-travel](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/web-archive) - [Change monitoring](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/monitoring) - [AI analysis](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/ai) - [Async & webhooks](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/guides/async-webhooks) ## Docs: Reference - [Endpoints](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/endpoints) - [All options](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/options) - [Responses & downloads](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/responses) - [Devices](https://screenshotforweb.com/docs/reference/devices) ## Free tools - [All free tools](https://screenshotforweb.com/tools) - [Website screenshot](https://screenshotforweb.com/tools/website-screenshot): The first screen of any site at desktop, laptop, tablet or phone size, without banners or ads. - [Full-page screenshot](https://screenshotforweb.com/tools/full-page-website-screenshot): An entire web page, header to footer, as one tall image. - [Scrolling screenshot](https://screenshotforweb.com/tools/scrolling-website-screenshot): A slow scroll through pages that load as you go, then one image of everything that loaded. - [Website history](https://screenshotforweb.com/tools/website-history): Every year the Wayback Machine kept a copy of a page, with a link to each one. ## Product - [Pricing](https://screenshotforweb.com/pricing): plans, quotas and what each plan includes - [Facts](https://screenshotforweb.com/facts): what the service does and doesn't do, with limits, in one page ## Optional - [The docs as one plain-text file](https://screenshotforweb.com/llms-full.txt) - [Blog](https://screenshotforweb.com/blog): guides and research on capturing web pages
