How to reach us, and answers to the questions we hear most: API errors, keys, signing in, billing and website history.

01Contact us
Write to contact@screenshotforweb.com. We read every message and reply as soon as we can. It helps to include:
- the email address of your account;
- what you were doing, and when;
- for API problems, the endpoint, the options you sent, and the error you got back, with its code.
Please leave API keys, passwords and card numbers out of the message: we never need them.
02Getting started
- The documentation starts with a first request, then covers authentication, every option and guides to each feature.
- Try options without writing code in the playground, once you’ve signed in.
- For a single capture without an account, use the free tools.
03API errors
Every error comes back with a code and a message saying what went wrong. The most common ones (all of them are in errors and limits):
- 401 UNAUTHORIZED: the key is missing, mistyped or revoked. Send it in the
X-API-Keyheader, and create a new key if the old one was revoked. - 403 FEATURE_NOT_IN_PLAN: an option your plan doesn’t include. The message names the plan that does; plans are compared on the pricing page.
- 429 RATE_LIMITED: too many requests in one minute for your plan. Wait a moment and try again.
- 429 QUOTA_EXCEEDED: this period’s screenshots are used up.
resetAtin the response says when they come back; upgrading adds more straight away. - 400 VALIDATION_ERROR: an option is missing or invalid, and the message says which.
When a capture isn’t what you expected
- “Element not found” means the CSS selector matched nothing on the page. Check it against the live page, and use
waitForif the element appears late. - Some sites block automated browsers or show a challenge page instead of their content. Those can’t be captured reliably.
04Account and sign-in
- Forgotten password: choose “Forgot your password?” on the sign-in page. The link we email lasts an hour. If you signed up with Google, use “Continue with Google” instead: your account has no password to reset.
- No confirmation email: check your spam folder, then sign in again and we’ll send a fresh link. Links last an hour.
- “Too many attempts”: after several wrong passwords, signing in pauses for up to 15 minutes, and after several confirmation or reset emails, no more are sent for up to an hour. The message says how long to wait.
- Closing your account: write to us from the account’s email address, and we’ll close it and delete its data as the Privacy Policy describes.
05API keys
- Create keys on the API keys page. A key is shown only once, so copy it straight away. You can have up to 20 active keys.
- If a key leaks, create a new one, then revoke the old one: it stops working straight away.
- To show screenshots on a web page without exposing a key, use signed requests.
06Plans and billing
- The billing page shows your plan, its renewal date and your invoices. “Manage billing” opens Stripe’s billing portal, where you can change your card and details and download invoices.
- To cancel, use “Cancel plan” on the billing page. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for, then moves to Free. The Terms of Use explain refunds.
- A charge you don’t recognise? Write to contact@screenshotforweb.com with its date and amount.
07Website history
- A year or month marked as skipped means the Internet Archive has no copy of the page from then. Try the site’s home page, or another address on it.
- An old page that looks broken is usually missing files the archive didn’t keep, such as images and stylesheets.
- The website history tool shows which years have a copy, for free, and its guide explains the Wayback Machine in more detail.
08Something else
- A page of yours on our site, or a capture of it: see Copyright & Takedown.
- A security problem: see responsible disclosure.
- Your data and your rights: see the Privacy Policy.
