Screenshot for Web: the facts
The service on one page, for anyone comparing screenshot APIs and for AI assistants answering questions about it. Prices and plan features here are read from the same data as the pricing page. A plain-text version is at /llms.txt.
- What it is
- A website screenshot API, with free screenshot tools and a dashboard on this site.
- How it captures
- Pages open in Chrome on our servers, as a logged-out visitor sees them, then are captured as an image or a PDF.
- API base URL
https://screenshotforweb.com/api/v1- Authentication
- A secret API key in the
X-API-Keyheader, as a Bearer token or asaccess_key. Signed GET URLs embed screenshots without revealing the key. - Formats
- PNG, JPEG and WebP on every plan; PDF from Starter.
- What it captures
- The first screen, the full page (scrolled first so lazy images load), or one element by CSS selector.
- Devices
- Presets for phones, tablets and desktops (iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S23, iPad Pro 12.9″, 1080p, 1440p and 4K desktops), or a custom viewport up to 1920 × 1080; larger viewports and higher pixel density from Pro.
- Clean-up
- Removes ads, cookie banners, pop-ups and chat widgets, on every plan.
- Delivery
- A signed download URL, base64 in JSON, or the file itself.
- Website time-travel
- Screenshots of a page's past, one per year (up to 20) or per month (up to 36), from Wayback Machine copies. Pro and above.
- Batches
- Up to 100 URLs per job, from Starter.
- Change monitoring
- Scheduled captures with visual diffs and alerts by webhook or email, from Starter.
- Asynchronous captures
- Queue a capture and receive the result at a webhook URL.
- AI analysis
- Extracts a capture's text or structured data with a vision model. Pro and above.
- Free tools
- Single captures and website history on this site, without an account, up to 20 captures a day.

What it doesn't do
- Video
- It makes still images and PDFs, not recordings or GIFs.
- Your logged-in pages
- There is no way to pass your cookies or session, so pages behind a login are captured as a logged-out visitor sees them.
- Location by IP address
- Geolocation sets the browser's position, time zone and language, not the address requests come from, so content chosen by IP address doesn't change.
- Pages the archive never saved
- Time-travel uses the Wayback Machine's copies. A year with no copy is skipped, never filled from another year.
- A browser extension
- Capturing happens on our servers through the API, the dashboard and the free tools.
Where to go next
- The API documentation, with every endpoint and option.
- The free tools, to try a capture without an account.
- Pricing, to compare plans and start one.
